Location specific disease management advisory based on real time weather information and crop growth stage.
S D Sawant and Indu S Sawant |
More than ten thousand grape growers in Maharashtra used the advisory during recent years. Advisory system was well ahead of time when developed, unique as it generates advice using disease risk estimating models and inbuilt logic on action plan (artificial intelligence). An interactive system takes, location specific weather, plot information on growth stage and sprays given as inputs and auto generate advisory which is plot and disease specific (downy mildew and powdery mildew). Auto generated advice whether disease risk is already covered or not. If not, when and what is to be done. |
2006 |
The technology is licensed to private service provider for providing this online advisory to grape growers in Maharashtra. The technology was given to Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Karnataka for providing this advisory to grape growers in Northern Karnataka through specially developed App. An impact analysis of the advisory system by third party has indicated average 31% increase in productivity in vineyards of app users and there was about 13% reduction in use of various vineyard inputs. |

Bacillus subtilis strain DR-39 isolated and selected from vineyard ecosystem for its efficacy to enhance degradation of pesticide residues present on the grapes.
Indu S Sawant, S D Sawant, K. Banerjee, Ahammed Shabeer TP. |
The formulation of ‘DR-39’ is to be sprayed on grape bunches, two to three times at the dose of 2.0 g/L, about 30 to 20 days before the harvest. These sprays result in increase in rate of dissipation of most of the pesticides (insecticides and fungicides) commonly used during last 30-40 days of fruit maturity, and help to bring their terminal residues below Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) rapidly |
2016 |
MoU with M/s Zytex Biotech Pvt. Ltd., in November 2016 for taking up commercialization of Bacillus Strain DR-39 in partnership mode |
03 |
Developed the guidelines for production of zero residue’ grapes.
S D Sawant, Indu S Sawant, S. Saha, D. S Yadav, K. Banerjee, Ahammed Shabeer T.P. |
The guidelines are developed using vast information generated in projects on evaluation of different agrochemicals for its bio-efficacy in disease / insect management, rate of dissipation of residue. The guidelines specify the growth stages till which agrochemical can be used without risk of residue and provide measures including use of biocontrol agents, safe agrochemicals etc. when pesticides cannot be used. The guidelines were demonstrated successfully during 2016-17 and 2017-18 on four locations spread over major grape growing areas in farmers’ vineyards. |
2015-2018 |
Guideline document was released first in 2015 by Hon. Secretary DARE and DG, ICAR, Dr Trilocan Mohapatra.
Revised document for current season is being updated. |
